Monestir de Pedralbes

This gorgeous monastery is very much unknown for most of the tourist coming to Barcelona. It is situated in the north side of the city, in one of the wealthiest Neighborhoods.

It was built for the will of the king Jaume el Just and his wife Elisenda de Montcada. Once the king died, Elisenda moved in the monastery until her death.

We can still see her grave from two points of view: one is from the inside of the church, where Elisenda is represented as a queen. Another is from the inside of the cloister, where she is represented as a nun.

The monastery is known for its beautiful cloister, which is considered one of the most important examples of Catalan Gothic architecture. The monastery also houses a museum that displays religious art and artifacts from the 14th to the 18th centuries.

Centuries ago, this area did not belong to Barcelona and was considered to be far away to the protection of the city walls. Today it is another beautiful gothic building in the city.
